Maryland-National Capital Purple Line – Montgomery County, Maryland
The Maryland-National Capital Purple Line is a transformative 16-mile, 21-station light rail system connecting Bethesda in Montgomery County to New Carrollton in Prince George’s County, MD. With a construction cost of approximately $5.6 billion, it remains the largest public contract ever awarded in Maryland. Now reshaping east-west connectivity in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, the Purple Line seamlessly integrates with existing transit networks, offering commuters an efficient, sustainable, and modern transportation solution.
As part of the Purple Line Transit Partners consortium, led by Fluor and Atkins, ReStl Designers provided structural engineering services supporting the design, build, operation, and maintenance of the Purple Line for a 36-year period. Our ongoing involvement ensured the project continues to meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and long-term performance. The Purple Line is now a vital piece of Maryland’s public transit infrastructure, driving economic growth, reducing congestion, and providing a future-ready transportation alternative for thousands of daily commuters.
