Shady Grove Metro - Gaithersburg, Maryland

This project demonstrates ReStl’s ability to successfully provide planning, design, and construction administration for major parking structure projects serving the metro-rail system as well as ReStl’s knowledge of and experience with Montgomery County codes and ordinances.

Close cooperation between Montgomery County Officials, WMATA, and the State of Maryland allowed the project to proceed. The 1,300-space precast/prestressed concrete facility required extensive coordination and approvals from WMATA. This project proved to be one of the first successful partnerships between WMATA and local government to provide much-needed parking at Metro stations in the Washington-Metro Area.

The design includes a four-level structure that is sensitively integrated with the entire station infrastructure, an architecturally compatible design solution, and a roadway and circulation pattern that has proven efficient. Due to the project size, critical schedule and congested site, the design team made an early decision that the structure would have to be of precast/ prestressed concrete components.

The schedule for this project was critical due to this project’s relationship with the I-370 construction project. Even though delays allowing the design to proceed were encountered, ReStl worked with the County to expedite the production of the construction documents phase, resulting in a construction completion date that was one month ahead of the County’s Schedule. The total construction time for this project was an unprecedented nine months.
